Our Mission/Our Programs

Boston Share Network (BSN) is a coalition of volunteers, shelters and agencies who work together to:

  • Assess the immediate needs of the homeless and poor
  • Respond to those needs
  • Bridge the gap between homelessness and a life of hope
BSN is a non-profit organization consisting of a coalition of volunteers, shelters, and agencies. BSN performs the following tasks:
  • Fosters the sharing of resources and information among homeless shelters in the Boston area
  • Provides financial assistance to those moving into permanent housing (Household Moving Assistance)
  • Provides financial assistance to those obtaining Massachusetts-issued ID cards  (You Are Somebody ID Program)
  • Provides funds in emergency transportation situations (Transportation Program)
  • Learns of the most urgent needs of the shelters and aims to fulfill them, picking up where grants and funding stop
These efforts are needed now more than ever! The shelters we currently work with and have contributed to include:
  • Boston Rescue Mission
  • Bridge Over Troubled Waters
  • New England Center and Home for Veterans
  • Rosie's Place
  • St. Francis House
  • Starlight Missions
  • Women's Lunch Place
  • The Home for Little Wanderers

“The BSN is one of the most dedicated groups of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Through them we have been able to  meet many of the basic needs of our clients concerning moving, and gathering identification. This has helped countless clients achieve their goals of a better life for themselves and their families. Their unparalleled compassion and determination is nothing short of incredible, and I feel privileged to be able to work with them.”

"The Boston Share Network is a program that helps our ladies live day to day.  They supply our guests with sleeping bags all year-round due to the guests having fears of being in a shelter to sleep and they feel safer outside our doors.  The BSN also helps our guests by providing shoes and personal care items so the guests can feel human again.  I request clothing on behalf of the guests in order that they can look beautiful and not feel dirty.  BSN provides rolling suitcases so our guests don’t have to carry all their items in bags and they can live with more dignity.  Women’s Lunch Place is very grateful to the Boston Share Network, as we could not be as productive as we are without them."

"One of the great things about BSN is the way it brings together the shelters and various organizations with a view of generosity and sharing resources instead of the usual competition.  After all "it takes a village to get someone  back in to housing again".  Being part of BSN has helped me in my work as an advocate because of the connections I've made."

"I can’t say enough about the wonderful support which we have received from the Boston Share Network (BSN).  They have provided us with many material items which might not have been as readily available to our guests. The material items for our Clothing Room, Stabilization Program for people moving into their own apartments, and Studio Shine of our MAP Program are sorely needed.  BSN has also helped with our annual Women’s Day of Renewal allowing us to provide gift bags to each participant. A major achievement of Share Network has been the funding of household moving costs for the newly housed.  Without this funding many of our guests would have been left without the financial resources to pay pick-up and delivery charges from furniture banks/storage. We expect to continue to have a long and fruitful connection with Dorothy and Len Werst."

"The BSN has helped the Boston Rescue Mission through providing basic, everyday necessities such as pillows and pillowcases, as well as toiletry items such as shampoo and soap.  This is an invaluable resource, affording the Boston Rescue Mission the opportunity to continue transforming lives at risk."
