Moving Assistance Program

When a person is finally ready to move out of the shelter into housing, they don't have the money to pay for a moving van or truck and a couple of people to transport furniture from a furniture bank to their new place. Without it they have to sleep on the floor and cope without furniture during their waking hours.  So BSN started the Moving Assistance Program which pays a moving company up to $300 for clients who need that help.

People who are in programs at our partner shelters and who are recommended by their case managers or the shelter point person are eligible to receive the aid to obtain and move furniture to their new housing, a really significant improvement in their quality of life.

With the assistance of agencies like the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless (www.mahomeless.org), New Life Home Refurnishing (www.newlifehr.org), and Household Goods (www.householdgoods.org), our shelter clients can choose needed furniture items -- bed, table, chair, sofa, electronics, and other household goods. BSN provides the funds for vans or moving companies to pick up these items from the agency and deliver them to the person's new home.
