Advocacy
IDs for Prisoners Released from state prison
After ten years of advocacy by Senator Jamie Eldridge and BSN President Dorothy Werst, prisoners released from Massachusetts State prisons receive a state ID or renewed driver's license. This is a tremendous step forward in prisoner rehabilitation, giving them a major tool to build a successful life out of prison.
We continue to advocate for prisoners in the County Jails to receive Massachusetts State IDs when they are released.
Everyone Needs ID: providing identification for youth and adults experiencing homelessness
Boston Share Network is proud to support #Everyone Needs ID Mass ID Access bill which is before the Massachusetts State Legislature for the 4th Biennium. It has been passed by the Senate multiple times, but yet to be passed by the House. This bill is being championed by the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless.
Massachusetts House Bill 3388, House Bill 3360 and Senate Bill 2251 would:
Establish a fee waiver process for youth and adults experiencing homelessness seeking standard Mass IDs
Create a process for individuals experiencing homelessness to apply for standard Mass IDs if they cannot meet the existing criteria by allowing ID applicants who are experiencing homelessness to submit residency documentation from providers of homelessness and/or youth services and state agencies under the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS).
